Jason pitched professionally with the Orioles, Padres, and Cardinals. Jason is well known at Sportsplex West for his ability to teach the art of pitching. Jason provides his clients with the extra edge that they need. Jason is highly requested so book your time with him early in the off-season!

Evan Romanchuk

Lessons Manager – Hitting Instructor – High School Players Only
Evan has spent the last 10 years teaching the art of hitting to his students at Sportsplex. Evan primarily works with high school hitters with the goal of becoming a college baseball player. Evan has great success with helping his players achieve their goals by working on the fundamentals of the swing and the commonly forgotten mental side of hitting. Evan played college baseball at San Francisco State University and played 2 years professionally. Evan has now given lessons at Sportsplex for the past 10 years and has helped more than 40 players to Division 1 schools such as TCU, Iowa, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Louisville, South Dakota State, Bradley, Valpo, and Moorhead State and more than 200 players to college baseball.

David Conrad

Pitching Instructor
Originally from Polk City, IA, David attended North Polk High School and was a first-team all-conference, first-team all-district, first-team INA all-state, first-team IHSCBAA all-state selection, and Mid-Iowa Pitcher of the Year going 11-0 as a senior and leading the state in strikeouts. He went on to pitch at the collegiate level, setting school records in strikeouts, innings pitched, fewest doubles, pick offs, and wins (tied) in helping DMACC to their first NJCAA World Series in nearly 30 years. David then went on to the Division 1 level (UNI) striking out 1.3 batters/inning and was a starter for Division 2 NCAA national tournament qualifier (UNO).

David serves as the baseball director of Next Step Sports Advising. He has spent time coaching and/or recruiting at both the high school and collegiate levels. With his background, Conrad has seen firsthand what it takes to succeed at each unique level of play and intimately understands points of view from both, athlete striving to get noticed and the college coach attempting to find, and sift through those athletes.

Zach McCool

Hitting instructor
Zach holds a BA degree in Health and Sports Studies from the University of Iowa, also a certificate in entrepreneurial management, graduating in 2011. While in college, Zach played four years on the University of Iowa’s baseball team, he managed to accomplish two school records: most hits in a game with 5, most triples in a game (2). Zach was honored as Third-Team All-Big 10 player his junior season, while compiling three Academic All-Big Ten awards, earning one year of Distinguish Scholar Award. Zach was also elected on to the University of Iowa Baseball Team Unity Council. After Zach was done playing he started MVP sports with his Dad and Brother Nick. MVP quickly turned into a top training facility for youth baseball players. Zach started the MVP Prospects baseball club which was constantly a top program in the state. Zach has now come to Sportsplex West along with his brother Nick and the entire MVP Prospects program to merge with the Iowa Sticks. We are super excited to have Zach on staff and his expertise in hitting.  Contact –

Kenny Nammany

Pitching Instructor – Technology Director
Kenny comes to Sportsplex West after spending the last five years coaching at the junior college level where he had a lot of success with player development. Kenny specializes in training pitchers with extensive plyo-care and arm-care work. Along with training, Kenny has studied the use of data in pitching and has recently been an asset for pitchers that want to enhance their arsenal. With the new Rapsodo camera, we are now able to gather spin rate, spin efficiency, spin axis, horizontal and vertical break as well as strike zone analysis. After collection, pitchers are then able to make adjustments to get the desired results with each pitch. Contact –

Blake Marchant

Catching/ Hitting Instructor
Blake comes to Sportsplex West after finishing his college career at Grand View University. Blake was an All-American catcher in 2013 after leading the Vikings in hitting. Blake was a sure-fire catcher which has earned him a spot in the California Winter League after his career at Grand View. Blake is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to catching so be sure to book a lesson with one of the best in the biz.

Connor Sorge

Hitting/Outfield Lessons
Conner was a standout outfielder at Valley High School taking his team to the State Tournament multiple times. Perfect Game Ranked him as the 2nd best Outfielder in the State and was a Top 1000 player in the country his senior year. Conner then went on to play Heartland Junior College a national power on Scholarship. After a successful two years at Heartland Conner transferred to Central Missouri to finish his successful college career. Conner has now returned to Sportsplex where he trained as a player has brought a fresh touch with innovative teaching methods. email for times

Joel Baxley Hitting

Catching and Fielding lessons
JC is from Wichita, KS, where he was a youth program director prior to moving to Iowa in 2019 and starting with the Sticks. He was a catcher at Hutchinson Community College. Upon graduating from HCC, he transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he was a catcher as well. In hitting lessons we will focus on the combination of data-driven drill work while getting you to understand the feel of your body positions. Using the data as well as visual aid we work towards getting you into optimal body positions for success. Taking this approach to hitting has the ability to unlock your potential and take it to new heights.

In catching or fielding lessons we will look at where you are currently struggling to find out where we need to go. Just like when it comes to hitting, our goal fielding or catching is to get you into an optimal position to be the best player and athlete possible. Contact

Austin Marchant

Pitching Lessons
Austin is originally from Indianola, IA where he was a 3-year varsity baseball starter. During his time at high school, he was a 2x First Team All-District player and a 2x First Team All-Conference player. After high school, Austin attended Grand View University as a pitcher. During his 4 years there, Austin was a 2x First Team All-Conference Relief Pitcher. In 2018 Austin was a First Team All-American and broke 2 school records. He holds the record for saves in a single season (14) and ERA (Earned Run Average) in a season with 0.00. In 2019 Austin was a Pre-Season All-American and finished his career at GVU with 27 total saves which was also a school record.

After college Austin went to Palms Spring, CA, and played in the California Winter League (CWL). While there, Austin signed a Professional Contract with the Florence Freedom out of the Frontier League. After his professional career came to an end Austin was hired by the SPW staff as one of our Youth Iowa Sticks Directors. Austin focuses a lot on the mechanic side of pitching but also works on the mental part of pitching as well.

Tyler Hillman

Hitting and Fielding Lessons
Tyler is originally a standout infielder from Pella, IA, and helped his team to two state tournament finishes in high school. Tyler was a two-time all-state nominee in high school, along with participating in the IHSAA All-Star Series his senior year. Perfect Game had Tyler rated as the 2nd top infielder in his graduating class and was a top 500 player in his class and was also elected a Preseason Central Region All-American Honorable Mention his senior season. Tyler recently graduated from North Dakota State University where he played shortstop and third base in his career there.

Nolan Friedrichs

Hitting/Outfield/Infield Lessons
Nolan is from Edina, Minnesota where he coached for the Twin Cities Baseball Academy and Starters baseball club before recently moving to Iowa in August 2021. Nolan attended Ellsworth Community College where he earned All-Conference honors as an OF/1B, and led the ICCAC conference in home runs, while also finishing 6th in the country with 16 home runs his sophomore year. After Ellsworth CC Nolan finished up his successful playing career at Upper Iowa University, where he was an outfielder and corner infielder. In hitting lessons we will utilize data/video and challenge you to be the best version of yourself. We are thrilled to add Nolan and his life experience as a player and coach in club baseball and the collegiate level to our staff. Contact

Zach Baxley

Hitting/Outfield/Infield Lessons
Zach graduated in 2021 with a Bachelors in Excrcise Science while also playing baseball at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He was second team all-conference and first team all region utility player with a career batting average of .340. He played eight positions during his college career, primarily catching. Zach is available for hitting, catching and fielding lessons. During my career I learned that hitting is 95% mental and 5% skill.
