Jason Pearson – Lead Pitching Instructor
Jason pitched professionally with the Orioles, Padres, and Cardinals. Jason is well known at SportsPlex west for his ability to teach the art of pitching. Jason provides his clients with the extra edge that they need. Jason is highly requested so book your time with him early in the off-season!
David Conrad – Pitching Instructor
Originally from Polk City, IA, David attended North Polk High School and was a first team all conference, first team all district, first team INA all-state, first team IHSCBAA all state selection and Mid-Iowa Pitcher of the Year going 11-0 as a senior and leading the state in strikeouts. He went on to pitch collegiately, setting school records in strike outs, innings pitched, fewest doubles, pickoffs and wins (tied) in helping DMACC to their first NJCAA World Series in nearly 30 years. David then went on to the Division 1 level (UNI) striking out 1.3 batters/inning and was a starter for Division 2 NCAA national tournament qualifier (UNO).
David serves as the baseball director of Next Step Sports Advising. He has spent time coaching and/or recruiting at both the high school and collegiate levels. With his background, Conrad has seen firsthand what it takes to succeed at each unique level of play and intimately understands points of view from both athlete striving to get noticed and the college coach attempting to find & sift through those athletes.

Evan Romanchuk – Lead Hitting Instructor- High School Players Only
Evan has spent the last 9 years teaching the art of hitting to his students at Sportsplex. Evan primarily works with High School hitters with the goal of becoming a college baseball player. Evan has great success with helping his players achieve their goals by working on the fundamentals of the swing and the commonly forgotten mental side of hitting. Evan played his college baseball at San Francisco State University and played 2 years professionally. Evan has now given lesson at Sportsplex for the past 9 years and has helped dozen of players to Division 1 schools such as TCU, Iowa, Louisville, Northwestern, South Dakota State, Bradley,Valpo and Moorhead State and over 100 players to college baseball.

Blake Marchant – Catching/ Hitting Instructor
Blake comes to Sportsplex West after finishing his college career at Grand View University. Blake was a All-American catcher in 2013 after leading the Vikings in hitting. Blake was a sure fire catcher which has earned him a spot in the California Winter League after his career at Grand View. Blake is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to catching so be sure to book a lesson with one of the best in the biz.

Conner Sorge – Hitting/Outfield Lessons
Conner was a standout outfielder at Valley High School taking his team to the State Tournament multiple times. Perfect Game Ranked him as the 2nd best Outfielder in the State and was a Top 1000 player in the country his senior year. Conner then went on to play Heartland Junior College a national power on Scholarship. After a successful two years at Heartland Conner transferred to Central Missouri to finish his successful college career. Conner has now returned to Sportsplex where he trained as a player has brought a fresh touch with innovative teaching methods.
Jankarlos Badillo – Hitting/Catching/Infield Lessons
Jankarlos grew up in Puerto Rico where he played with countless big leaguers and professional ball players. He was highly recruited out of High School and choose Indian Hills Junior College because of there proven track record of helping Latin ball players not only on the field but also in the classroom. After his time at Indian Hills he went on to Mt Mercy University where he played for former U of Iowa Head Coach Jack Dahm and current U of Iowa Pitching Coach Desi Durshel. Unfortunately his career was cut short due to injury but gave him the opportunity to get right into coach which he has done for the past 4 years. Jankarlos has worked with countless players who have moved on to college baseball.
Jake Yacinich– Baseball Hitting/Infield Play
This central Iowa product was recruited by some of the finest Division I schools in the Midwest including the University of Iowa and national power Wichita State. During Jake’s Junior year at the University of Iowa he was named first-team All-Big Ten while batting .365, hitting 32 RBIs, stealing 25-of-29 bases, and being featured on Sportscenters top-10 plays when he stole home in the Big Ten Tournament. Following Jake’s Junior year at Iowa he was drafted in the eighth round of the Major League Draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
Ed Kohl – Baseball Hitting
Ed Kohl played college baseball at Maple Woods CC in Kansas City, MO and at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. In 2001 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with a minor in Sociology. From 2002-2008 he worked for the Los Angeles Dodgers as a Strength and Conditioning coach. From 2010-2016 he worked for the Chicago Cubs, also as a Strength and Conditioning coach. In both positions, he coached and educated minor and major league baseball players. Ed has worked with and taken tips from some of the finest baseball instructors in the game and has the ability to combine biomechanical aspects of training into a solid hitting approach. He is a certified Strength and Conditioning coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
